The Image

This is the female scarlet malachite beetle. These beautiful beetles are limited to a handful of site in the UK, we have been lucky enough to be part of the conservation project for many years. Our observations have shown us that females feed on pollen, primarily on grass heads (but sometimes other flowers) and wait, head downwards for males to arrive. The entire community are presumably attracted to each other by pheromones but the initial attractant which causes the congregation seems to be flowering grasses in a sunny location. Whatever the cause, the beetles appear in the same places year after year.

Material

This giclée print is reproduced from Ian’s original  watercolour and pen and ink drawing.

The prints are beautifully printed onto sustainable Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm Fine Art Paper. An eco friendly paper, with a natural white tone. It has a subtle surface giving the paper a pleasant, silky feel.

Frame not included.
