The Image

Sagittal or Arrow Squid Todarodes sagittatus (Lamarck, 1798) – an example of a ‘short-finned squid’

Drawn from a specimen found in the surf at Filey Brigg, Yorkshire. Shown with the grasping tentacles extended. These tentacles are usually tucked out of sight and only extended when grasping for prey.

This species makes long migrations around the ocean entering coastal waters to breed in vast aggregations. They spend their days close to the sea bed rising to the surface to feed on shoals of fish at night.

This giclée print is reproduced from Ian’s original pen and ink drawing and will add interest to any room.

The prints are beautifully printed onto sustainable Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm Fine Art Paper. An eco friendly paper, with a natural white tone. It has a subtle surface giving the paper a pleasant, silky feel.

Hemp is a resource saving plant whose robust and long-lasting fibres have been a part of paper production for centuries, most notably used for the Gutenberg Bible and US Declaration of Independence. The image is printed using archival quality, Fine Art Trade Guild approved printers, inks and papers — tests have shown the prints can last over 100 years.
