The Image

This is the male scarlet malachite beetle. These beautiful beetles are limited to a handful of site in the UK, we have been lucky enough to be part of the conservation project for many years. During research our observations have shown us that male scarlet malachite beetles have adaptations near the base of their antennae which look like C-shaped snap-on clips. Their normal function is to pick up ‘scents’ and airborne vibrations but the antennae appear to be used expressively by the beetles in much the same way that a dog uses its ears to the point that you can almost see them thinking!

Material

This giclée print is reproduced from Ian’s original  watercolour and pen and ink drawing.

The prints are beautifully printed onto sustainable Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm Fine Art Paper. An eco friendly paper, with a natural white tone. It has a subtle surface giving the paper a pleasant, silky feel.

Frame not included.
