Little Atlantic Cuttle Sepiola atlantica (d’Orbigny, 1842) – an example of a little cuttlefish, sepiolid or bob-tail squid’

From a living specimen found at Porthminster Beach St Ives, Cornwall, photographed in a washing up bowl and a clear glass tea-cup. Released safely back to sea after his modelling session!

This delightful little cephalopod is probably the most accessible species for most people, as it is common on sandy beaches around the UK. Rarely more than 6cm in total length, the beautiful Sepiola can be hard to spot and is capable of rapid colour change.
