The Image

This is the scarlet malachite beetle pair, the male and female side by side. These beautiful beetles are limited to a handful of site in the UK, we have been lucky enough to be part of the conservation project for many years. During courtship, the pair nods towards each other, their antenna becoming intertwined. The male is distinguishable from the female by the ‘hooks’ on his antennae, that he uses to lock with the female.
