Barberry Carpet Moth Fine Art Print
The Barberry Carpet Moth Fine Art Print is available as an A5 (21 x 14.8 cm) or an A4 (29.7 x 21cm print.
The Image
Barberry carpet moth Pareulype berberata (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) Family Geometridae.
This beautiful little moth does not eat carpets as its name might suggest. It feeds, as a caterpillar, exclusively on the Barberry shrub.
It’s wingspan reaches about 32mm and it has two generations per year. Moths emerge from the overwintering pupae in April or May and by June there are caterpillars.
Flying individuals have been found in Scotland and in west Wales but breeding populations are only known from central and southern Britain; the Lowlands.
Material
This giclée print is reproduced from Ian’s original pen and ink and watercolour illustration.
The prints are beautifully printed onto sustainable Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm Fine Art Paper. An eco friendly paper, with a natural white tone. It has a subtle surface giving the paper a pleasant, silky feel.
Hemp is a resource saving plant whose robust and long-lasting fibres have been a part of paper production for centuries, most notably used for the Gutenberg Bible and US Declaration of Independence. The image is printed using archival quality, Fine Art Trade Guild approved printers, inks and papers — tests have shown the prints can last over 100 years.
