The Image

Thistle – Asteraceae. The prickly leaved thistle is often seen as an unattractive invader. But those prickles protect it from being eaten by herbivores, and it in turn provides a haven for ladybirds.  If you look closely at the flowers they are quite beautiful and they provide great resources for pollinators. They also produce seeds which feed the garden favourite, the gold finch. Also the fluff they produce makes a beautiful lining for birds nests.

The wild corner is a celebration of our lesser loved, but so important wildflowers and a plea to allow just a small corner of your garden to run wild, allowing these important plants to flourish. You can read more about it here and here.
