The Image
Reddish Buff Moth Acosmetia caliginosa (Hübner, 1813)
The wing span of this tiny moth is just 23 to 30mm from tip to tip. They bear the reddish brown mottled appearance of an inconspicuous dead leaf. Adult moths are active in June and July.
The striped green caterpillars feed on saw-wort (Serratula tinctoria).
They are reduced to just a single population on the isle of Wight.
Material
This giclée print is reproduced from Ian’s original pen and ink and watercolourillustration.
The prints are beautifully printed onto sustainable Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm Fine Art Paper. An eco friendly paper, with a natural white tone. It has a subtle surface giving the paper a pleasant, silky feel.
Hemp is a resource saving plant whose robust and long-lasting fibres have been a part of paper production for centuries, most notably used for the Gutenberg Bible and US Declaration of Independence. The image is printed using archival quality, Fine Art Trade Guild approved printers, inks and papers — tests have shown the prints can last over 100 years.
Frame not included.
